Clamping and towing is a regulated activity on public highways. Clamping and towing on private property is unregulated, however, the operator must have an SIA Licence.

Many clampers are charging drivers excessive fees to recover their clamped vehicles. Today there are set standards on what clampers can charge for clamping, towing away and storing removed vehicles.
